"עשרות סיפורים מרתקים על דמויות עירוניות דרים בכפיפה אחת עם חקירת החתול כנווד בתוך המרחב האורבני. דרום-מזרח. באר שבע. שטח ההפקר. העיר הטורקית הישנה שעל שפת נחל באר שבע היבש היא הקצה של באר שבע החדשה. מרחב פתוח. חסרי-בית וקדושים נודדים. נשים בודדות. חיות רדופות. החרדים הרואים את עצמם כשרידים אשר ה' קורא, צאצאי הפליטים של שואת יהודי אירופה, משפחות מזרחיות, אלה המכונים משת"פים (משתפי פעולה), צדיקים נסתרים, מקובלים דרומיים - תערובת סמיכה, אפלה ומוארת בו בזמן. הפריפריה היא מצב החירום של המרכז. מצבה של החיה והמצב האנושי וקולות מודרניים ועתיקים המעידים מהי חיה ומהי היסטוריה מסתבכים ומתפתלים זה בזה ושוזרים יחדיו את סיפורם האחד של אנשים וחיות. שברי הסיפורים הולכים ומתבררים כפסיפס במסגרת חדשנית הפורצת את גבולות הרומן ושבה וממקמת אותו ברגע הפתוח של ראשית ז'אנר זה. מציאות משעשעת ומסתורין אפל." -- מעטפת אחורית
