"חזי (יחזקאל) חזיז היה ילד פלא, שפתר תרגילי חשבון במהירות שיא, שזכר בעל פה פרקי תנ"ך, שקרא אנגלית-צרפתית-ארמית-לטינית והבין גם גרמנית ורוסית, והראש שלו היה מוטרד. משהו תמיד הזדמזם לו בראש. ככל שגדל, התעסק חזי בסוגיה אחת: מה יעלה בגורלו של כדור הארץ? הוא מתחמם, משאבי האנרגיה שלו הולכים ואוזלים, ואיש, כך נדמה, לא רוצה לשמוע על האסון המתקרב. בגיל 26, בלי עבודה ובלי זוגיות, חי מקצבה ששולח לו הדוד מאמריקה ומתרומות מהסבתא והדודה, הוא מקדיש את כל כולו לרעיון שלו להצלת העולם: הפקת אנרגיה מתעופת זבובים. לעזרתו נרתמים מוכר ספרים זקן שמאתר לו ספרים עתיקים; אמן חובב וודקה ונשים; ומשוררת אחת שהוא מכיר, ואולי בעצם לא? שקוע עמוק במימוש חזונו, מנסה חזי להתנער מהמתרחש סביבו. ובעיקר - מהנעשה בנפשו פנימה. זו הנפש שהוא ממאן, או שמא חרד עד אימה, להקשיב למאווייה האמיתיים. וככל שפרויקט האנרגיה מתקדם, כך מתעלם חזי מהדי צעדיה של הקטסטרופה - שתתרגש לא על העולם אלא עליו עצמו." -- מהכריכה האחורית.
