"עליית המחבר לישראל, שרותו בצה"ל, חברותו בקיבוץ ובמושב, פעילותו הפוליטית במפא"י וברפ"י...מסמך עשיר המעיד על החשיבות שיש לכתיבה העממית לגבי ציור נאמן של תמונת ההיסטוריה". ; Memoirs of a Jew born in Safi, Morocco, in 1932. Pp. 46-85 describe his family's experiences during World War II. Relates conflicts between Muslims and Jews in the town, and the involvement in some of these of his brother Yosef, who was imprisoned several times. His parents, who had worked as tailors for the royal family, were fired in 1940, and the family was reduced to poverty. In 1942 Yosef, who had fled, returned to Safi. He shouted curses against the Vichy regime in a movie theater and was beaten and almost killed by Muslims in the audience.
