"'הנה אני מתחילה', הרומאן השני של יהודית קציר, הוא סיפורה של אהבה חריגה ודרמטית, על רקע המציאות הישראלית בסוף שנות השבעים, עם אירועיה הגדולים והקטנים. ריבי שנהר, שהיא גם גיבורת 'למאטיס יש את השמש בבטן' - סופרת נשואה ואם, עכשיו בת 38 - מוצאת מחברות של יומן שלה מגיל 16-14. במחברות הללו היא כותבת כקיטי, הנמענת הבדויה של יומנה של אנה פרנק. במשך אחר-צהריים ולילה בשנת 2001, מול "המחברות החבויות", משתחזרת האהבה האסורה בין ריבי לבין המורָה שלה לספרות בחטיבת-הביניים, מיכאלה בֶּרג, אשה נשואה בשנות ה-20 שלה, ומסופרים החיים הנסתרים סביב הרומאן שנמשך שנתיים. ; זהו סיפור חניכה העוקב צעד אחר צער אחרי גיבוש זהותה של נערה מתבגרת, מנוכרת מאמה ומאביה הגרושים, צמאה למגע ולהכרה, מבקשת "לטרוף את החיים". הצמיחה שלה היא מינית, רגשית, וגם ספרותית. לפיכך זה גם סיפור על הקשר בין התשוקה-לגוף לבין התשוקה-למלים, שכמו נובעות מאותו מקור. האם לפנינו סיפור של אהבה גדולה ומיוחדת, או סיפור של ניצול? הנפש בוחרת איזה סיפור היא מספרת לעצמה, וריבי מכוננת סיפור של חסד והצלה, שהוא יותר מכל סיפור של אהבה." -- מעטפת אחורית
