In October 2000 a Holocaust memorial, a museum, and an exhibition area were opened at the Judenplatz in Vienna. "The Destruction of Austrian Jews, 1938-1945" (pp. 32-89) describes the Anschluss, the "Kristallnacht" pogrom, deportations and killings of Austrian Jews during the war, and the fate of Austrian Jews in Riga, Minsk, Izbica, Treblinka, Auschwitz, and other ghettos and camps. Discusses, also, the fate of Austrian Jews who fled to other European countries and were caught there by the Nazi occupation. Pp. 90-117 contain two essays on the history of the Judenplatz from the Middle Ages to the present.
