"סיפוריה של מירה מגן עומדים בסימנו של מתח חריף בין תשוקה גופנית עזה, המדומה לחיה רעבה ועיוורת, לבין הנסיון לרסן אותה. רבים מגיבוריה הם מתבגרים או נשים בשיא בשלותן - אלה ואלה לכודים במלכודת מעיקה: מצד אחד, כמיה לקרוא דרור ליצרים, ומצד שני, רגשות חטא, אשמה וחרדה מאובדן שליטה. לרוב הדמויות זוהי מלכודת מסוכנת במיוחד, משום שהן שייכות למסגרות דתיות, לעתים חרדיות, שאינן מאפשרות חריגות ומעידות. כפתורים רכוסים היטב את מצוקתן של דמויותיה מעצבת הסופרת בפרוזה זכה ומכונפת. סיפורי הקובץ קולחים באפיקם הטבעי בלי כל הצטעצעות והתחכמות. לשון התיאור פיוטית ואצילית, כעשויה מבדולח. "כפתורים רכוסים היטב" הוא ספרה הראשון של מירה מגן. שלושה מסיפורי הקובץ ראו אור בכתבי העת "אלפיים" ו"אפס שתיים" ובקובץ 10 סיפורי אהבה ישראלים", והם התקבלו מיד עם הופעתם בהתרגשות ובהערכה רבה"--מן המעטפת האחורית.
