שנות העשרה הן המשמעותיות ביותר בחיי אדם. בתקופה זו מתעצבת תמונת עולמם של הנער/ה, מתגבש יחסו אל עצמו, גופו ומיניותו, נבנים ונבחנים קשריו הבינאישיים עם הוריו, אחיו, חבריו ובני המין השני. התהליכים שאותם עובר המתבגר בשלב זה של חייו יהוו תשתית לאישיותו כאדם מבוגר. הפסיכולוגיה המודרנית, יש בכוחה לסייע לו ולהוריו לעשות תקופה זו רגועה יותר. ספר זה ידריך אתכם ההורים ואתכם המתבגרים כיצד לעשות זאת. חלקו הראשון של הספר מתייחס ל"סערת גיל ההתבגרות" ולגורמיה. הוא מצביע על התכנים בהם עסוקים בני-הנעורים ועל מוקדים אפשריים של הרגשות שליליות, מצוקות וחרדות, שעלולות להיות אבני נגף בדרכה של התפתחות תקינה. בחלק השני נותן ד"ר זיידר המלצות "עשה" ו"אל תעשה", שירגיעו את ה"סערה". לאיכותם של יחסים במשפחה (ויחסי אנוש בכלל) תורמים שני הצדדים - ההורים והילדים. לפיכך, הספר מופנה להורים ולמתבגרים כאחד, אלה גם אלה אחראים לקביעת אופי היחסים במשפחה.
