"הכל זורם, "שום דבר אינו עומד במקומו - אמר הרקליסוס; ובהוויה הישראלית, קצב התמורות הוא כה מהיר, עד שנדמה שבזרימת המאורעות הרודפים זה את זה, שום דבר אינו בר־קיימא, לרבות האמיתות שלאורך הוקמה החברה העברית החדשה בארץ-ישראל, ושעליהן נתבססה זכותנו לשוב ולחיות בה. הסחף - שגבר מאד מאז מלחמת ששת-הימים - הוא לשני הכיוונים: לימין ולשמאל. מכאן - לתפיסה שכל פתרון פוליטי, באיזור המסוכסך שבו אנו חיים, יושג רק ביד חזקה ובזרוע נטויה, תפיסה שבדרכה להגשים את עצמה היא מנערת מעליה - מתוך זלזול או מתוך יאוש - כל ערך הומאניסטי העומד לה למכשול, כביכול; ומכאן - ל ”רדיפת צדק" ערטילאית, תלושה, שבגילוייה הקיצוניים היא מגיעה לידי התבטלות עצמית, התרפסות, ויתור מדעת ושלא מדעת על עמדות המגן שהן ערובה לעצם קיומנו בארץ. כנגד אלה, כנגד הקנאות בשני הכיוונים, הגורסת ”אם לא לנו אתה - לצדינו”, כנגד הקונפורמיות מזה ומזה, הבזה לספק, למבוכה, וחדלה לבחון אמיתות שוב ושוב מחדש - מכוונים רוב המאמרים האלה, המנסים להיצמד לשורשים, לעמוד בפני הסחף.
