Born: 01/31/1909 in Dresden. Religious parental home. Double tracked education: general education paired with Jewish education. Middle class school, high school, graduation 1920. Secretary of the Interior. Emigration to Palestine 1940. Father: wine trader, Mother: transport, died of Typhus. 1943 wedding. Profession: teacher. Father raised him in the religious way. Wanted to become a Rabbi and attend the Rabbinical seminary. Took the entrance examination and passed. Jewish and East Jewish life in Dresden. School years. Relationship with fellow students. Anti-Semitic experiences during school years. Episode: a teacher declares Hebrew a dead language. Relationship to Zionism. Rabbinical seminary in Berlin. Episode : Zionist youth movement Blau-Weiss, resignation. Episode: Prague. Language situation within the family: German with Yiddish influence. General situation of Judaism during Nazi times. Literature which predicted the decline of Judaism. Grandfather's death. Zionist movement in the family. Zionist Congress 1921. About his studies and further Zionist activities: Rabbinical seminar Berlin, Psychology, Old Testament and History, Misrachi movement. Studies in Leipzig, Ph.D. in 1933. National degree 1934. Work in the center of illegal Aliya in Geneva. Own Emigration: polish passport, Lisbon, Mozambique, Tiberias (1940). Arrival and beginnings in Israel: arrived 12/05/1940. Kfar HaNo'ar Hadati. Talmud teacher (1941-46). Political engagement: active in the establishment of the State of Israel, building up of the polit. party Aliya Chadascha. Jekkish self-perception.
