Born Bosnia, 1919. Studied engineering, Czechoslovakia. Returned home following German entry. Joined army as pilot. Following release from army worked as engineer. Redrafted, 1941. After collapse of army returned home to first anti-Jewish decrees. Discusses: forced labour; roundup of Jews to concentration camps; flight of youth into forests; family's escape to Italian-controlled territory disguised as Muslims; transfer to refugee camps; kind treatment by Italians; hesitation in joining Partisans because of anti-Jewish behavior there; joining Jewish battalion of Partisans, then artillery; comrade who saved his life; transfer to air-force, 1944; harsh treatment there because of Jewishness; illness and recovery in hospital; release, 1944, to search for wife; finding her in refugee camp for Jewish Yugoslavians; Aliyah, 1945.
