The National Library of Israel is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Chaim Meir Neria as Curator of the Library's Haim and Hanna Solomon Judaica Collection.
Born in the Old City of Jerusalem Dr. Neria, holds a PhD from the Divinity School at the University of Chicago in Medieval Jewish rhetoric, philosophy, and ethics, and a Master's Degree from Notre Dame University in Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution.
Prior to this appointment, Dr. Neria worked for seven years at the Office of the President of the State of Israel, as Chief Speechwriter and Head of the Strategy Department.
The Haim and Hanna Solomon Judaica Collection at the National Library of Israel, one of the most important and comprehensive of its kind, holds millions of items – physical and digital – including books in Hebrew, books on Jewish topics, Jewish journals and magazines; Hebrew manuscripts, personal archives, and Jewish music.
Commenting on his appointment, Dr. Neria said: "The Judaica Collection of the National Library of Israel is a national asset, one of the most important we have in the State of Israel. This collection that values the spirit that established us as 'The People of The Book'. My thanks to the Library's management for putting their trust in me. I will continue to develop both this collection, and the field of preserving the treasures of the Jewish people in Israel and the Diaspora, with a sense of responsibility and respect for our national treasures of heritage and culture."
Head of Collections Dr. Raquel Ukeles stated, "The Haim and Hanna Solomon Judaica Collection is today considered the largest and most important worldwide, and together with the Israel collection, constitutes the core of the National Library. For the past 130 years and continuing today, the Judaica collection has amassed vast quantities of manuscripts, books, periodicals, posters, archives, and digitally-born materials that reflect the richness and diversity of Jewish culture."
