Architect and engineer Isaac Rapoport (also Yitzhak), was born in Berdichev in the Russian Empire (now Ukraine) in 1901, and died in Tel Aviv in 1989. Rapoport collected and preserved his archival materials, covering 1931 to 1981, throughout his career at the "Rapoport Architects" firm. In 1914, he immigrated with his family to pre-State Israel. In 1916, the family was deported to Alexandria, Egypt, where he completed his studies at the Alliance Israélite Universelle school. In the 1920s, Rapoport studied civil engineering and architecture at the Technische Hochschule Zu Berlin, and at the Ecole Speciale de Traveux Public in Paris. Upon his return to pre-State Israel, he worked at the British Mandate department of roadworks, and as a junior partner at the architectural firm headed by architect Richard Kaufman. In 1931, Rapoport opened his architectural firm, where many projects were planned together with his partners architect Zvi Frankel, and civil engineer Asher Gleiberman. Among the prominent buildings he designed: Beit Migdal in Tel Aviv, the Bank Kupat Am branch in Haifa, and Dajani Hospital in Jaffa. The archive contains: dozens of architectural plans, certificates, and photographs, including plans and drawings of the Abdel Rahim House in Jaffa (today the French ambassador's residence), and also a comprehensive album of photos documenting residential buildings in Tel Aviv designed in the 1930s, the Of-Ar factory in Ofakim, the Bank Kupat Am building in Tel Aviv, and other projects. Some photographs were taken by photographer Itzhak Kalter.
