Dr. Clinton Bailey, an American-Israeli scholar of Bedouin culture in the Negev Desert and in the Sinai Peninsula, was born in 1937 in Buffalo, New York. He immigrated to Israel in 1957,completing his BA in Islam and Middle Eastern History at the Hebrew University. Bailey earned his Master's in International Relations and his PhD in Political Science, with a focus on the Middle East, from Columbia University. Beginning in the 1960s, Bailey conducted hundreds of interviews with members of the Bedouin community in the Negev and Sinai, the interviews are accompanied by hundreds of photos documenting the community. This work served as the basis for his book-length studies of Bedouin poetry, law, and society. In 1994, he received the Emil Grunzweig Human Rights Award for his study on Bedouin history and advocacy for Bedouin rights. In 2019, Bailey decided to deposit his collection at the National Library of Israel.

Biographical summary יצחק קלינטון ביילי, מזרחן וחוקר של התרבות הבדואית בנגב ובסיני, נולד בשנת 1937 בבפאלו שבארצות הברית. בשנת 1957 עלה לראשונה לישראל. במסגרת לימודיו האקדמיים השלים תואר ראשון בהיסטוריה של המזרח התיכון והאסלאם באוניברסיטה העברית, תואר שני ביחסים בינלאומיים באוניברסיטת קולומביה, וכן דוקטורט מאוניברסיטת קולומביה במדעי המדינה בהתמחות במזרח התיכון. הוא שימש כיועץ לענייני ערבים במשרד הבטחון. ד"ר ביילי חיבר מספר ספרים על השירה הבדואית, המשפט הבדואי והפתגמים הבדואים. בשנת 1994 זכה באות זכויות האדם על שם אמיל גרינצוויג. האות הוענק לו על מפעל חייו לחקר תולדות הבדואים ולקידום זכויותיהם.
