הסדרה כוללת כתבי יד של סופרים ויוצרים רבים שהגיעו לידי דב סדן בדרכים שונות, חלקם ע"י היוצרים עצמם וחלקם ע"י בני משפחתם ששלחו לפרופ' סדן עזבונות וחלקי עזבונות. בחלק מהמקרים היתה לפרופ' סדן כוונה להוציא לאור את הכתבים, או לכתוב עליהם.;כמה עזבונות משמעותיים שהגיעו לידי סדן נרשמו בנפרד בסדרות נפרדות (סדרות 4-10 + סדרה 14).
