The collection includes copies of official documents produced by the Rabbinical Court, which worked alongside the chief rabbinate of the Jews of al-Kenitra (Port Lyautey), Morocco. The documents relate mainly to the personal status of the Jews of the community (marriage, divorce, births, deaths) and they were sent to the state legal department of Morocco for official authorization of changes in civil status. Most of the documents are typed copies of originals, which it seems were kept in the possession of the community’s chief rabbinate. All the documents bear the official stamp of the Rabbinical Court in Hebrew and French: “The office of the Rabbinate of Port Lyautey”. The Jewish community of Kenitra was one of the oldest communities in Northern Morocco. One of its greatest Rabbis in recent generations was Rabbi Yehiye ben Harush (1913-2000). The archive was made available thanks to the Samis Foundation, Seattle, Washington.
