The collection consists of manuscripts by Hermann Reckendorf for his researches in Oriental Studies, as well as handwritten card index prepared by him towards a research on the Nabatian and Palmyrian languages.

Biographical summary Hermann Salomon Reckendorf was born in 1863 in Heidelberg, Germany. His father, Hermann Reckenforf, was a well-known orientalist, and the first translator of the Koran into Hebrew. Solomon Reckendorf studied Semitics under Theodor Noeldeke and at the Berlin rabbinical seminary. In 1888 Reckendorf became professor at Freiburg University, specializing in Arabic syntax. Reckendorf died in Freiburg on March 10, 1924.
Ownership history The collection was permanently deposited in the National Library in October 1938 by Prof. Gotthold Weil.
