Isaiah Sonne (1887-1960), an Hebrew historian and bibliographer, considered one of the most important researchers in the field of Jewish manuscripts and the history of the Italian Jews. The archive includes drafts of articles, notes, correspondences, lists of books and manuscripts, notebooks and pads, photographs of manuscripts, drafts and copies of reports from visits Sonne made in libraries and archives of Jewish communities in Italy.

Biographical summary ישעיה זנה נולד בעיירה מוסציסקה, גליציה, בשנת 1887. למד בבית המדרש לרבנים ובאוניברסיטה של פירנצה, איטליה. בשנת 1919 סיים את לימודיו לתואר דוקטור באוניברסיטת ציריך. בשנות העשרים והשלושים לימד בבית המדרש לרבנים של פירנצה. בשנת 1934 איגוד הקהילות היהודית באיטליה הטיל עליו את התפקיד לבקר בקהילות ולכתוב דו"ח (Relazione) על מצב הארכיונים והספריות של הקהילות. עד קיץ 1936 ביקר זנה במרבית הקהילות היהודיות וערך את הדו"חות שלו. בין השנים 1936-1939 ניהל את בית המדרש לרבנים באי רודוס. לאחר שהות של שנה בארץ ישראל, ב-1940 היגר לארצות הברית, ושם היה מרצה וספרן מדעי ב-Hebrew Union College של סינסינטי, אוהיו. פרסם מאמרים ומחקרים רבים בתולדות עם-ישראל, ביבליוגרפיה עברית, ספרות יהודית וגם בנושאים אקטואליים
אסף כתבי יד, תעודות וספרים. נפטר בסינסינטי בשנת 1960.
Ownership history בשנת 1961 אוסף הספרים וכתבי היד של זונה נמסר למכון יצחק בן צבי בירושלים. עם האוסף הגיע גם חלק מארכיונו האישי ומארכיונו של החוקר והמרצה יעקב מאן, גיסו של זונה. חומר זה הועבר באותה שנה לספרייה הלאומית. חלק אחר של הארכיון נמסר ל- The Jacob Rader Marcus Center of the American Jewish Archives, Hebrew Union College, Cincinnati,
