Biographical summary שמעון קאנץ, סופר ועתונאי יידי, נולד בצ'כוסלובקיה בשנת 1914. בשנת 1936 הופיע פרסומו החשוב הראשון, בעיר לודז', שם התגורר. פרסם נובלות ומאמרים בעתונות יידיש. בימי מלחמת העולם השנייה שהה קאנץ בברית המועצות. בשנת 1946 חזר קאנץ לפולין ועבד כעתונאי, סופר ומבקר ספרותי בעתונים יומיים ובכתבי עת ביידיש, שראו אור בוורוצלב, לודז' וורשה. בשנת 1957 עלה קאנץ לישראל והמשיך בפעילותו הספרותית ביידיש. החל משנת 1960 היה העורך הספרותי של העתון "לעצטע נייעס". קאנץ ערך יותר מ-15 ספרי יזכור לקהילות יהודיות שנחרבו בשואה. שמעון קאנץ נפטר בשנת 1990.
