ملاحظات Photograph is printed in a book with a description beneath
printed description: "(Genesis, xxxvii: 25)--The thorny cactus everywhere abounds in Palestine, and is used by the natives for the purpose of making fences. One of the tallest of these cactus fences we saw at Dothan. In agreement with the narrative in Genesis, it is remarkable to find that the great highway from Gibeon to Egypt still passes near Dothan. It was along this road, beside which stands this cactus fence, that the Ishmaelites came from Gilead with their camels bearing spices and balm and myrrh, going to carry them down to Egypt, to whom Joseph was sold by his brethren
and it is said that modern Ishmaelites passing in the same way would not hesistate to make such a purchase now. The plains about Dothan have been used for pasturing sheep in all ages. Here the nomadic shepherd still reigns, while the higher lands are held by a settled population. Elisha resided at Dothan." Copyright year and photographer's name are at the bottom of the photograph, along with "Franklin Co Eng-Chi". See 5091BAI/LVi9CAJS (Voyager # 356534)
