פרשת הטבעתה של אניית המעפילים "סטרומה" בימי השואה, הסעירה בזמנה את היישוב בארץ ישראל. עם הזמן, הפרשה, נמוגה והלכה מתודעת הציבורה ונשארה חיה רק בזכרונם של יהודי רומניה בכלל וקרובי משפחות הנספים בפרט. על "סטרומה" נכתב גם בעבר, אך זו הפעם הראשונה שהנושא זוכה למחקר היסטורי. ; Discusses the sinking of the "Struma" refugee boat off the Turkish coast in February 1942. 769 Jews who had embarked in Romania lost their lives in the explosion. Investigation of the incident is difficult, since some of the Romanian documents seem to have disappeared and the Turkish documents are not available. Surveys background information, including Romanian anti-Jewish policies during World War II, British restrictions on Jewish immigration to Palestine, the situation of the refugees, the condition of the boat, and Turkish indifference to the plight of the Jews.
