Asher Rachimian (originally Rahimian), known as 'Musa the Great', was the grandfather of Mahari-Vered Rachimian- Shiver. He was born in Golfigan and moved to Barak, Iran where he lived until his death in 1923. He was an opthamalogist. He once treated and cured two tourists who had arrived Persia from Tiberias, Palestine. They offered to pay him gold coins, however he refused to accept the payment. They promised him that when they return to Israel they would purchase a plot of land in Tiberias in his name. Mordechai (Morad in Persian, which means, surprise is one of the sons of Asher and the father of Vered Shriver. He was born in 1893 I Iran. He studied herbal medicine and in time was awarded a medical license by the Iranian government. Morad married Rachel (nee Bibijan) Reuveni, who was from the same city as he and was in fact a relative of his. Rachel's father was also a doctor. The children were raised according to Jewish values that were passed on from generation to generation. They included placing great importance on education. The elder brother, Benjamin, served as an officer in the Iranian navy, after completing his medical studies. He ultimately chose to work as a pharmacist. The father, Mordechai, also acted as the mohel and he circumcised his own grandchildren. He knew how to make wine. He would start the wine-making process on Rosh Hashana, and on Passover they would use this wine for the seder. He was an active member of the Jewish community. Morad and Rachel Rachimian had 11 children. In 1965 they made aliyah to Israel and lived in Talpiot, Jerusalem. Mahari-Vered, their youngest child came to Israel at the age of 20. She lived in Kibbutz Yad Mordechai and worked as a youth worker. Vered tells that, " half my like I lived in my homeland and half my life my homeland lived inside me." Vered wrote a book on her life called, The Freedom to Love the Freedom to Choose, published by Kavim, Tel Aviv 2006. Rachel, the mother, passed away in 1988. Murad, the father died some years later in 1992.
