Moshe Sharvit (1933), the son of Yehia Shalom and Perla (Margalit) nee Shalom, was born in the Old City, 9th generation on his mother's side. Avraham and Sarah Shalom, Perla's parents were born in Monastir, Macedonia in the mid 19th century. They made aliyah to Israel, to Jerusalem in the late 19th century. Yehia, the father of Moshe Sharvit, was born in 1911 in Erfoud, Morocco a town near the border with the Sahara Desert. Yehia and Perla were married in Jerusalem and lived on Chabad Street in the Old City. They had 6 children: Avraham (1932), Moshe (1933), Yosef (1934), Shalom, Miriam and David. When Moshe Sharvit was two years old (1935) the family moved to the 'Ohel Moshe' neighborhood in the Western part of the city. He learned for two years in the 'cheder' and then studied in the' Alliance' school and in the vocational school of Alliance Israélite Universelle. At the age of 17 he moved to kibbutz 'Beit Alpha' and from there joined the army. He graduated from the Teacher's Seminary in Nahalal and studied for three years in the University School for Senior Teachers in Bible, General History and the History of the Jewish People. He taught for many years. He was the vice-principal of a school and retired in 1998. Today, he works as a tour guide and a volunteer lecturer in community activities. Moshe Sharvit gave the pictures as part of a project of the 'Lev Hair' Community Center which documents and memorializes the founding families of the neighborhoods in Nachlaot.
