Uzi Cohen: Uzi Cohen was born on 31.12.1924 in Tel Hai. His parents were Kalman Cohen and Yehudit Tzenter. He had two siblings, Ora and Yossi. His father, Kalman Cohen, the son of Rachel and Yosef, who were cow traders, was born in Pinsk in White Russia in 1895. They came to Israel in 1910. His mother, Yehudit, the daughter of Moshe and Batya Tzenter, was born in 1893, to religious parents who were the owners of a flour mill, in Mazyr, in White Russia. They came to Israel in 1914. Kalman settled in Hadera upon his arrival in Israel and was one of the founders of the Baum-Cohen group, the pioneers who resettled Tel Hai in 1918. Kalman Cohen was appointed as the Mukhtar of the settlement. On the 11th day of Adar, 1920, the Arabs attacked Tel Hai. Kalman was in Rosh Pina at the time dealing with matters concerning Tel-Hai. All his life, he regretted that he was not there at the time of the attack. He believed that he could have stopped it, as he had deep friendly relations with the Arabs in the area. Kalman married Yehudit Tzenter in Tel Hai. They had three children: Ora (who married Yigal Horowitz) who was named for Shneior Shposhnik, who was killed in the attack on Tel Hai in December 1919; Yosef, who was named after Yosef Trumpledor and Uzi. The Cohen family lived in Tel Hai until 1926. With the decision to transfer the lands of Tel Hai to Kfar Giladi, the family moved to Kfar Yechezkel and later to Haifa. On the 10th anniversary of the attack on Tel Hai, the 11th of Adar 1930, the Cohen family was one of the founders of the renewed settlement of the Moshav Be'er Tuvya. The first settlement, Be'er Tuvya-Castina, was destroyed, burnt and deserted, in the 1929 uprising. Yehudit and Kalman lived in Be'er Tuvya until their death. Uzi grew up in Moshav Be'er Tuvya. In the beginning of the 1940's he studied at the Kaduri School for one year. However when his brother Yosef was drafted into the British army and later into the Jewish Brigade, Uzi was forced to leave his studies to help with the farm. In 1945 he was drafted into Palyam- the sea force of the Palmach, for a short time. During the War of Independence Uzi served in the Guard Corps which was subordinate to the Field Corps, he participated in the defense of Be'er Tuvya and in the capturing of Arab villages in the area, including, Beit Daras, Marar (north of Gedera and Isdud (Ashdod). In 1946 Uzi married Sarah Brodzisky, who was born in Tel Aviv in April 1925. The couple had two daughters: Daphna (1947) and Orna (1951). Uzi passed away I 1980. Sarah Cohen nee Brodizky: Sarah Brodizsky was born in 1925 to Chanoch (1897) and Malcah nee Rogozinsky. Chanoch grew up in Belintzisa in Poland. His father was an accountant and his mother, a housewife. Malcah Rogozinsky was born in Poland at the end of the 1900's. There were 8 children in her family. Wili and his wife Klara were the only ones who succeeded in moving to Israel. All the rest of the family was murdered in the Holocaust. Chanoch and Malcah met in Poland and moved to Israel in 1924, when Malcah was in the latter months of her pregnancy. The couple lived in Tel Aviv. Their daughter, Sarah was born there. Chanoch turned to the Worker's Union looking for a job, however he was told that first jobs would be given to those who came from Russia and only afterwards to those coming from Poland. Chanoch began working in construction and in 1924 he joined the Mandate Police and participated in the first course to train policemen in Israel. He first served in Tel-Aviv and then in Hevron. In the 1929 uprisings he was the only Jewish policeman in Hevron. His wife, Malcah, who was at the end of her second pregnancy, with their second daughter, Tzila, left and went to live in Jerusalem. They lived in the house of Rav Kook. When rumors of the massacre began reaching Jerusalem, Malcah started sitting shiva for her husband, but then she received a telegram saying that he was safe. During the uprising Chanoch saved the life of Shlomo Salonim, who was 5 years old and managed to gather scriptures that were burnt and soaked in the blood of the victims. Chanoch served as a policeman in Jerusalem, Ayelet Hashachar, Tzefat and in the Bitiniya Police in Be'er Tuvya. During his service he passed on information to the Hagannah. When the family moved to Be'er Tuvya, their eldest daughter, Sarah, remained in Tzefat to complete her high school studies. She joined the Etzel Movement together with Amichai Feiglin ("Gidi", who later became the operations officer of the Resistance Movement). When the British found out that Sarah joined the Etzel, they spoke to her father, Chanoch, who was an active policeman at the time. They gave him two options: to be fired from the police or to make his daughter leave the resistance movement. Sarah, who was 17 at the time, left Tzfat and returned to her parent's house in Be'er Tuvya and worked at NAAFI the British army canteen. She also decided to volunteer in the Hagannah. In order to join, they demanded that Sarah 'turn in ' her friends from the Etzel Movement. However she refused to do so. Her father came to her assistance and she was allowed to join without disclosing the names of her friends from the Etzel. After Sarah and Uzi married (1946) they continued running the farm that Kalman and Yehudit founded. Sarah was active in public institutions, was a member of the Moshav Committee and one of the founders of the 'Tovitron' the Moshav singing group. During the '60's Sarah worked in settlements with new immigrants. In the early '70's she learned Library Science and founded and ran the library in Kiryat Malachi. She was respected for the work she did and was awarded the National Librarian Award in 1983. She was awarded honorary citizenship from the Kiryat Malachi Municipality. Sarah passed away in 2015.
