وصف المحتوى

Kibbutz Naot Mordechai is named after Mordechai Rozovsky- a Zionist activist from Argentina. The Kibbutz was established on November 2, 1946. It is situated in the Upper Galilee on the banks of the Jordan River in the heart of the Hula Valley, surrounded by Mount Hermon, the Golan Mountains and the Naftali Mountains. The kibbutz is situated 10 km. south-east of Kiryat Shmona, from the Gome Junction approximately 4 km. on highway 977. The Founders of Naot Mordechai The founders of the kibbutz were from pioneer youth groups from Eastern Europe. The members of the first group were from the "Tchelet Lavan" Youth Movement in the Czech Republic and arrived in 1938 for training in Kfar Giladi. After one year they founded Kibbutz Ga'aton in Nahariya. They were joined by other pioneering groups. In Nahariya they worked in various jobs including a shoe repair shop to repair the shoes of the German 'Yekim' who lived in Nahariya. The shoe repair shop eventually became the 'Ga'aton' Shoe Factory that in later years became the 'Teva Naot' shoe factory. In 1942 the members of Ga'aton moved and established Kibbutz Ga'aton on a near-by hill. (Today kibbutz Evron is situated on this hill). In 1946 the members of the kibbutz received a suggestion to establish the kibbutz in the Upper Galilee. On the eve of November 2, 1946, 30 members of the kibbutz went to build Naot Mordechai. They erected a temporary bridge over the Jordan River which enabled them to cross the river, and with the help of the local population, the Haganah and Solel Boneh the huts and the water tower were built on the site. The inhabitants of the Arab village Az-Zawiya, situated south of the kibbutz, attempted to prevent the building of the huts and that night two founding members of the kibbutz were killed- Shlomo Ben Yehuda and Shlomo Bentov. On the eve of the establishment of the State the inhabitants of Az-Zawuya fled to Syria. Kibbutz Ga'aton continued to exist for a year and a half more and on the eve of the Declaration of the Establishment of the State, in May 1948, all the children and members, together with their belongings, were evacuated to the coast at Nahariya and from there to Haifa by boat and then continued on to Naot Mordechai. The kibbutz accepted youth members from North Africa, members of youth movements from Argentina, and members of the second and third generation of the kibbutz founders. Naot Mordechai Today Today the population of the kibbutz, members, residents, friends and children is 600. The kibbutz is currently in the process of accepting new members. The newly renovated early childhood educational facilities in the kibbutz provide professional care from birth through kindergarten. 450 children from the surrounding settlements, kibbutzim and Kiryat Shmona all learn in the district elementary school, 'Lev Haamek' (The Heart of the Valley). The Emek Hahula High School is located in Kibbutz Kfar Blum. There is also an informal educational system that functions all year round, including holidays, for first grade until twelfth grade. The kibbutz offers a variety of recreational activities such as: swimming pool, sports hall, football field, tennis courts, public buildings including a member's club, library and conference room, youth club / pub. It also offers a variety of services such as a supermarket, a health clinic and dental clinic, a synagogue, etc. Neot Mordechai is a secular kibbutz. The kibbutz upgraded the infrastructure; water, sewage, electricity, roads and sidewalks. It also enjoys beautiful gardens as well as the beauty of the promenade along the Jordan River - the historic route passing through the kibbutz. Kibbutz Naot Mordechai is undergoing certain changes, while making sure to protect the rights of the founding members and people with special needs. The Kibbutz is financially stable. Much attention is paid to the social fabric of the community, education, health and mutual responsibility. The homes of the members are listed as their personal property. New members receive plots of land on which to build their home. The economy of the kibbutz is based on agriculture- orchards and field crops as well as renting buildings for industrial and home use.
